When Things Don't Seem Right.......

When Things Don't Seem Right.......

"For God is not a God of confusion but of peace." 1 Cor. 14:33

A lesson God seems to be impressing on me lately is, if things don't seem right....they probably aren't.

This morning I awoke to the sound of crickets sweetly chirping next to my bed. Though it would have been much "sweeter" if they weren't coming from my alarm clock at 5:30 am!

I threw on some make-up, brushed my teeth, got dressed....then drug my oversized tote and carry-on bag down the stairs.

Out into the cool dark morning....my hubby lifted my bags into the back of the Durango and we were off to the airport at 6:15 am. Nice, we had planned to leave at 6:30 am so we were ahead of schedule....isn't that a lovely feeling?

My flight didn't leave until 10:13 but anyone from the Atlanta area knows you have to leave before7:00 am to avoid sitting in rush hour traffic for two hours. It was a pleasant drive to the airport and a delightful hour alone with my man to talk. We had both had such a hectic week it was great to have this time.

We arrived safely at the Delta drop off area....a quick kiss and I was off. I am flying to Indy for the weekend to help drive my in-laws back to Atlanta for a visit on Monday.

No line at the kiosk (sweet!) so I punch in my flight number. My first clue that something wasn't right was when the machine informed me that there were earlier flights available if I wanted to switch. I thought...wow I must be earlier than usual. No need to move things up though....as I didn't want to change the plans I had with my in-laws. Flight set to arrive at 11:50.....perfect timing for a relaxing lunch.

Did I mention I HATE airport security check points? However the line was not bad at all this time.....so I swiftly unload my iPad, iPhone, zip-lock baggies of essentials, etc. into the buckets. Yes! Me and my stuff make it through with flying colors.

I grab a chicken biscuit for breakfast and make it to my gate a little over an hour before boarding time. Ahhh. Quiet reading time. I just started, The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls and am intrigued with the story.

However, my second clue that something wasn't right was that my flight was not on the gate screen..... and there weren't many people waiting. Something told me to go double check with someone at the gate.....nah, I thought......you're fine...just enjoy your reading time.

I did just that until about 9:15 am, when I realized we were supposed to begin boarding in 15 mins. I started to get a little nervous. There were definitely more people waiting now, yet I sensed something wasn't quite right.

That's when I saw it.....clearing typed on my boarding pass: Boarding: 9:33 (PM!) Ugh.....stupid machine must have made a mistake! Now I've got to hustle and find the right flight. I grab my printed flight info....to double check. Right there on the page it says: Departs: 10:13 PM. Arrives:11:50 PM.

OMGoodness! How could I have been so stupid! It's not like this is the first flight I have ever booked.

Then I remembered another clue that something wasn't quite right. When I booked my ticket I should have questioned why I was getting such an amazingly cheap flight on Delta, only a week in advance. Perhaps because the average person doesn't like to fly out at 10:15 (PM) to arrive at their destination at midnight!

So here I sit at Starbucks drinking an over priced chai tea latte, waiting to see if I will be able to catch a 2:00 pm flight.

As John Calvin would say, "Wish me luck!"

PS: Lesson learned. God is a God of peace.....not confusion. When things don't seem right: Ask questions. Do more research. Pay attention to the details. We can't expect God to bring peace to our lives when we aren't willing to take the time to pay close attention. Confusion is from the evil one. Don't give him a foothold!
