Three Common Causes for Insecurity and Lack of Confidence

Experts have shown that three of the most common causes of insecurity are:

Past rejection due to some failure. Social anxiety due to past bullying or exclusion from a peer group. An insecurity that's driven by perfectionism.

Insecurity Driven by Past Failure

One way to overcome insecurity driven by past failure is to realize that you are not alone. Many great men and women have all experienced failure of some type. It is essential to continue to get out and engage with life. Get feedback and counsel from ones you trust. Then remember your identity as a beloved child of a good, good Father and press on toward your goals.

Insecurity Due to Social Anxiety

One way to overcome insecurity causing social anxiety is to address any wounds from past bullying or times you felt excluded. Fight back against any lies you believe about yourself by meditating on God’s Word. And remember, you are safe and secure in God’s love. Then you can interact with others without fear of rejection, knowing God already accepts you.

Insecurity That's Driven by Perfectionism

One way to overcome insecurity driven by perfectionism is to remember it’s more about progress and excellence. Remember, you no longer need to strive to prove yourself because God already approves you. As you remember who you are and that you are safe, you can break up with perfect and take time to rest in God’s embrace.

A Bible Verse to Claim When You Feel Insecure

They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. ~Malachi 3:17

Friend, if you are a Christ-follower, you are God's treasured possession! Rest in His protective love.
